DarkObserver, 8. April 2003 um 20:45:53 MESZ Babes doing Karate In my youth it used to be tough guys with lots of muscles who used Karate and did all the action on TV. Okay, there was "Charlie's Angels", and Emma Peel of "The Avengers" way before that but nowadays you have babes like "Dark Angel" or the sexy Jennifer Garner in "Alias" beating up foreign agents and doing all the stunts. I'm not sure if that's good or bad, I mean for us guys there's the "drool factor" in addition to all the high-tech action and for some gals I guess these uber-chicks are a role-model somehow. Too bad though for girls who are rather short and/or heavy-set who will never look nor move like these action-babes. I wonder if TV series like the ones I mentioned contribute to female eating disorders, especially among teenagers? link me DarkObserver, 5. Februar 2003 um 23:07:13 MEZ Due South I know, I know. Another article about a TV series, although serious things are happening and the war against Iraq is on the doorstep -as I predicted at the end of last year btw. Here's a link to a fantastic webiste, offering extensive information about one of my all-time favorites "Due South" which is just getting a re-run on German TV. The show's humor and its characters appealed to me from the beginning and I was sorry to see the original Detective Vecchio replaced by this admittedly "cooler" looking guy. I always sort of identified with Vecchio because he too had loved and lost and had to live with it, just like me. His outlook on life was also much more pessimistic, than Fraser's, but together they made a great duo to set things straight. Although part of the show's humor relies on differences and some prejudices Americans hold about their Canadian neighbors, it never bashes either side too strong. Unforgettable is the scene in the very first ep, where Benton Fraser -freshly arrived from Canada- walks up to a prison cell in which Vecchio is pretending to be a crook dealing in illegal textile goods and asks to speak to some "Detective Armani" lol With that, Vecchio's cover was gone, of course. And then the lovely superior of Fraser, how often did I mutter to myself "Come on now, grab her, kiss her, for Chrissakes" which didn't happen until the famous ep that had Leslie Nielsen as a senior Mountie commander in it. Okay, soon I will deal with more serious matters again, as the Iraq conflict starts happening and maybe I'll even post some philosophical musings. link me DarkObserver, 29. Januar 2003 um 22:43:20 MEZ For all Trekkies out there My friend Jens Scholz's blog is a real treasure trove of intellectually or artistically stimulating stories and interesting links. Sorry, English speakers, he writes in German only, but the last block of links on the right, where you can find this blog right beneath the one of Neil Gaiman hurray, contains links to interesting English-speaking blogs. Much to my surprise, one of them leads to the blog of Wil Wheaton "Who??", you may ask? Yeah, right: The actor, who played the probably most-hated character on "Star Trek, Next Generation". But judging from his blog, he's a lot more mature nowadays and an overall likeable guy. Go see for yourself. In his FAQ, he makes a very funny and true observation pertaining to the new Trek series "Enterprise" Q: "What's the best about thing about it?" A: "Detox-Gel" lol If you don't know what he's referring to, watch "Enterprise" (not yet on German TV though) And here's the link to Jolene Blaylocks website, so you can drool over some nice pictures of Trek history's most curvaceous Vulcan officer: www.time-scape.com Another nice site for the latest incarnation of Star Trek is: stenterprise.com It's crammed with information, but you get used to it and Trekkies are all geeks anyway, aren't they? ;-) link me |
